Trapped by a payday loan?
Payday and short-term lenders are among the most heavily regulated in the country — and among the most likely to break the rules. If you were charged an illegal rate or pushed into an endless cycle of rollovers, you may be entitled to a refund and damages.
What we're investigating
Many payday lenders charge rates that exceed state caps, lend without the required license, or structure loans so borrowers can never escape. Some make unauthorized withdrawals or continue debiting accounts after a loan is paid off.
You may have a claim if…
- Your interest rate or fees exceeded your state's legal limit.
- The lender wasn't licensed to lend in your state.
- You were rolled over repeatedly and the balance never dropped.
- The lender debited your bank account without authorization.
- You were threatened with arrest or criminal charges over a debt.
Why it matters
State usury laws, licensing rules, and the federal consumer protection statutes exist to stop exactly this conduct. Borrowers who were charged unlawful amounts may be able to recover what they paid, cancel the remaining balance, and obtain statutory damages.
